Meet Recap

Nearly every Sparta girl beat her record at Saturday’s Manistee National Cross Country invitational. Here’s what happened in the Varsity race: Ava Sousa led the Spartans with a gorgeous PR, followed by our 3 freshman phenoms: Sam Huizen, Ryle Bjorkman–also with a PR–and Maddie Bennett. Racheal Bolton was Sparta’s 5th runner, followed by Jenna Hoover, with a lovely season record. Hannah Knowles rounded out the varsity 7. The JV race was a show of excellence, with huge PR’s from Sophie Yost and Elise Andersson, who earned medals. Rita Miralles also impressed with a whopping 2 minute PR. Katie Perry earned a big season record, and Lizy DeBack finished her last meet with another big PR. Despite all the record-breaking performances, coach’s proudest moments were witnessing her athletes supporting and cheering each other on in their respective races. Next up, the regional meet!

Meet Recap

Sparta girls took an impressive third place in one of the toughest D2 conferences in the state, finally besting a talented Catholic Central team at Tuesday’s Ok Blue conference meet. Senior Racheal Bolton took her place at the front of the Sparta pack, securing All-conference honorable mention. Next came Freshman phenom Sam Huizen with a huge PR, followed by a determined Jenna Murdock, with a gorgeous season record. Ava Sousa smoothed in next, followed by Freshmen Maddie Bennett and Rylie Bjorkman, seconds apart. Kaitlyn Knowles rounded out the varsity 7 for this meet. All the Sparta girls have been working hard, and supporting each other through physical discomfort. This unified team should feel proud of their accomplishments. We are looking forward our final full-team meet Saturday in Manistee!
